PEACE
FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT (3 OF 12)
Greek translation is EIRENE, which strongly suggests the rule of order in place of chaos. Peace is a tranquility, a state of rest, that comes from seeking after God, or, the opposite of chaos; the traditional Hebrew salutation salom; but Jesus' "Shalom" is a gift of salvation, connoting the bounty of messianic blessing.
NEW AMERICAN BIBLE REFERENCES
Jesus is described, among other names, as the Prince of Peace, who brings peace to the hearts of those who desire it. As we hear at every Catholic Mass, Jesus declares in John 14:27: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid."
Romans 5:1 shares with us, "Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…"
Romans 15:13 offers, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the holy Spirit."
